TERRY’S TERRACE
36470 Jefferson Avenue, Harrison Township
Terry’s Terrace is a great spot for catching up with friends, watching a game, checking out arcade games, and ordering fish and chips. With three varieties available, it’s no wonder why the fish and chips have previously been voted #1 in the area. The hand-cut Atlantic cod is freshly cooked with a traditional batter, Sam Adams batter, or a weekly featured beer batter that the chef creates with one of the 50 tap beers available. The traditional version comes with lemon and remoulade, and all three come with a side salad or soup du jour along with the promised fries.
THE GRAND TRUNK PUB
612 Woodward Avenue, Detroit
The Grand Trunk Pub, housed in a beautifully restored former railway ticket station in downtown Detroit, offers meals with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. You’ll find fresh beer-battered cod and seasoned steak fries, accompanied by house-made coleslaw and malt-vin aioli or house-made tartar sauce. Pair the meal with one of the dozens of beers available at the Grand Trunk Pub, and you’ve got yourself a filling meal with a side of history.
SWEETWATER TAVERN
400 East Congress Street, Detroit
15640 West McNichols Road, Detroit
16091 East 10 Mile Road, Eastpointe
At Sweetwater Tavern, the fish and chips have become a fan-favorite, right alongside its wings that everyone knows and loves. This meal provides a huge portion of beer-battered Icelandic cod, French fries, and coleslaw. While it doesn’t offer many frills, this fish and chip meal is all about keeping the classic alive, and you certainly won’t leave hungry. If you aren’t looking for cod, you can get jumbo fried shrimp or pan-fried pond catfish served with seasoned fries as an alternative meal option.
